Hands In 4 Youth, home of Camp Vacamas, has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring a group of young people to the city of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates for EXPO2020, a huge international fair that only takes place every five years.

Thanks to our sponsors, the company DP World, a group of children aged 13-18 and their chaperones will experience this huge festival dedicated to the themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability: pavilions and events from 190 countries, educational programs, and some special tours just for our group, like a behind-the-scenes visit to DP World’s Port of Jebel Ali, one of the world’s largest and busiest hubs of international transport. They’ll have the chance to experience Dubai, a unique, modern city, home of the world’s tallest skyscraper among many other dazzling sites.

The week-long trip will take place on dates to be finalized, between November 2021 and January 2022.

But this program includes a whole year of learning and opportunities! Children selected will come together starting this summer, and attend a 19-day sleepaway camp at Camp Vacamas. Through the summer and fall, they’ll share a series of seminars (some online and some in person at Camp Vacamas) where they’ll learn about the region, its culture, the history of international events like this one; and where they’ll get to know each other and how to prepare for their trip.

This will be fun, educational, and an adventure that these kids will remember their whole lives.

Safety & Travel

Our sponsor, DP World, will cover all expenses related to travel, accommodations and access to the Expo events and other opportunities. We’ll provide additional details to the families of selected participants. 

Everyone’s health and safety is our first priority! During every part of the program—from this summer at Camp Vacamas through our flight and visit to Dubai—strict COVID-safety guidelines will be in place, including masking, testing and more. During the trip, trained chaperones from Hands In 4 Youth will accompany the group on all of their travels, and our hosts will make sure their experiences are safe as well as educational.

FAQs

What Requirements Will There Be For Participating Youth?

Every child will be required to participate in the seminar series and attend a sleepaway summer camp session.

Each child will need to have a U.S. Passport (The staff at HI4Y can help you complete the application process, which takes several months.). Prior to the start of summer camp we will require each child to provide proof of a recent COVID test. There may be additional COVID precautions required ahead of our trip to Dubai, and parents will be informed in advance.

Most important: it will require responsible behavior and an eagerness to learn!

How Are The Young People Selected To Participate?

Once applications have been received, a team of senior staff from Hands In 4 Youth and our partner agencies will complete the selection process.

There are no specific requirements that your child has to meet, such as a grade point average or test scores, that will qualify or disqualify them! We’ll do our best to select a group of young people that will make the most of the experience, and we’re sorry that we can’t bring everyone who applies. 

What Should We Expect Traveling To Dubai?

During the series of seminars that all participants will attend, we’ll teach everything they need to know about traveling to and around Dubai, such as local customs. For example, they should expect some guidelines about appropriate clothing. But, Dubai is a welcoming city and the EXPO is an international event, designed to make travelers from all over the world comfortable.
